While conducting "atmospherics" on a security patrol in Rutbah, Iraq, Dec. 29, Sgt. Daniel Giere, a squad leader with Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, Regimental Combat Team 5, stops to speak with a teenage boy who greeted the Marines in English. The boy showed them his English textbook, explaining that he had learned his English in a local high school, indicating progress with the education system in Rutbah
